Troubleshooting - Folderllm

FolderLM Troubleshooting Guide

Having trouble with FolderLM? This guide helps you fix common issues related to installation, login, notebook syncing, folders, imports, prompts, sources, and Chrome extension behavior.

FolderLM works as a productivity layer on top of NotebookLM, so some issues can happen because of browser permissions, NotebookLM loading state, Google account session, extension version, or page refresh problems.

1. FolderLM is not opening

What may be happening

FolderLM may not open if the extension is disabled, Chrome has not loaded it correctly, or the browser needs a restart.

Try this

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Click the extensions icon near the address bar.
  3. Make sure FolderLM is enabled.
  4. Pin FolderLM to the toolbar for easier access.
  5. Refresh the current page.
  6. Restart Chrome.
  7. Try opening FolderLM again.

If the issue still happens, remove and reinstall FolderLM from the Chrome Web Store.

2. FolderLM is installed but not showing on NotebookLM

What may be happening

FolderLM needs NotebookLM to be open and fully loaded before some features appear. If NotebookLM was already open before installing FolderLM, the page may need a refresh.

Try this

  1. Open NotebookLM.
  2. Refresh the NotebookLM page.
  3. Wait until NotebookLM fully loads.
  4. Click the FolderLM extension icon again.
  5. If needed, close the NotebookLM tab and open it again.

! Important note: If NotebookLM was open before FolderLM was installed, FolderLM may not detect the page correctly until you refresh NotebookLM.

3. FolderLM shows “Untitled notebook” or “Loading Notebook”

What may be happening

FolderLM may not have received the final notebook name from NotebookLM yet. This can happen with new notebooks, slow loading pages, or first-time sync.

Try this

  1. Open the notebook in NotebookLM.
  2. Wait for the notebook title to fully load.
  3. Refresh the NotebookLM page.
  4. Reopen FolderLM.
  5. Click sync again if needed.

* Why this happens: Notebook names come from NotebookLM. If NotebookLM has not fully loaded the title yet, FolderLM may temporarily show "Untitled notebook" or "Loading Notebook". This usually fixes itself after NotebookLM loads properly.

4. My notebooks are not showing in FolderLM

Possible reasons

  • You are signed into the wrong Google account.
  • NotebookLM is not open.
  • FolderLM has not synced yet.
  • Chrome blocked the extension.
  • NotebookLM page was not refreshed after installation.
  • You have shared notebooks that load differently from owned notebooks.

Try this

  1. Make sure you are signed into the correct Google account.
  2. Open NotebookLM in a browser tab.
  3. Refresh NotebookLM.
  4. Open FolderLM again.
  5. Click sync if available.
  6. Restart Chrome.
  7. Check if FolderLM is updated.

If notebooks still do not appear, report the issue and include your browser, operating system, and a screenshot.

5. Folder count or notebook count looks wrong

What may be happening

Notebook counts can differ because NotebookLM may show owned notebooks, shared notebooks, recently created notebooks, or synced notebooks differently.

Common reasons

  • Some notebooks are shared with you.
  • Some notebooks are owned by you.
  • NotebookLM has not finished loading.
  • FolderLM sync is delayed.
  • You are using multiple Google accounts.
  • A notebook was recently created, renamed, or deleted.

Try this

  1. Refresh NotebookLM.
  2. Refresh the FolderLM dashboard.
  3. Confirm the correct Google account is active.
  4. Wait a few seconds and sync again.
  5. Restart Chrome if needed.

If the count is still incorrect, send a bug report with the expected count and actual count.

6. Folder sync is not working

What may be happening

Folder sync may fail because of account issues, internet connection, browser storage, or temporary sync delay.

Try this

  1. Check your internet connection.
  2. Make sure you are signed in to FolderLM.
  3. Make sure you are using the same account across devices.
  4. Refresh the FolderLM dashboard.
  5. Reopen the extension popup.
  6. Restart Chrome.
  7. Try syncing again.

* If you use multiple devices: Make sure FolderLM is installed and signed in with the same account on each device.

7. I cannot sign in to FolderLM

Possible reasons

  • Google sign-in popup was blocked.
  • You are using a work or school account with restrictions.
  • Browser cookies are blocked.
  • Chrome extension permissions are restricted.
  • Your organization admin blocks third-party apps.

Try this

  1. Allow popups for the sign-in page.
  2. Make sure third-party cookies are not fully blocked.
  3. Try signing in with a personal Google account.
  4. If using a work or school account, contact your admin.
  5. Restart Chrome and try again.

If you see a specific error message, copy it and send it through the Contact Support form.

8. Google sign-in shows error 400

What may be happening

This usually means Google rejected the sign-in request because of account, browser, redirect, or OAuth configuration restrictions.

Try this

  1. Make sure you are using the latest version of Chrome.
  2. Try signing in again after refreshing the page.
  3. Clear cookies for the sign-in page if needed.
  4. Try with a personal Google account.
  5. If using a work or school account, ask your admin whether third-party app access is allowed.

When reporting this issue

Please include:

  • Error code
  • Full error message
  • Browser name
  • Operating system
  • Personal or work/school Google account
  • Screenshot of the error

9. Import Current Page is not working

Possible reasons

  • The current page is not supported.
  • NotebookLM is not open.
  • You have not selected a notebook.
  • The page content is not readable by the extension.
  • The import action was interrupted.
  • Browser permissions are missing.

Try this

  1. Open the page you want to import.
  2. Open NotebookLM in another tab.
  3. Make sure you are signed into NotebookLM.
  4. Select the correct notebook in FolderLM.
  5. Click Import to Notebook again.
  6. Refresh both pages and retry.

If import still fails, report the page type and what happened after clicking import.

10. FolderLM says import succeeded but I cannot find the content

Try this

  1. Open the selected NotebookLM notebook.
  2. Check the sources section.
  3. Refresh the notebook.
  4. Wait a few seconds for NotebookLM to process the source.
  5. Confirm you imported into the correct notebook.

Sometimes NotebookLM may take time to process newly added content.

11. Prompt Library is not opening

Try this

  1. Refresh NotebookLM.
  2. Reopen the FolderLM popup.
  3. Click Prompts again.
  4. Restart Chrome.
  5. Make sure FolderLM is updated.

If the prompt modal opens but looks broken, send a screenshot through the bug report form.

12. Prompt does not insert into NotebookLM

What may be happening

NotebookLM’s input box may not be active, or the page may have re-rendered while FolderLM was inserting the prompt.

Try this

  1. Click inside the NotebookLM prompt/input box manually.
  2. Open FolderLM Prompt Library.
  3. Select the prompt again.
  4. If it still fails, refresh the notebook page and retry.

Helpful bug report details

  • Which prompt you selected
  • Whether the input box was empty or already had text
  • Whether the prompt inserted partially or not at all
  • Screenshot or screen recording

13. Copy with citations is not working

Possible reasons

  • The current response does not have visible citations.
  • NotebookLM has not finished generating the response.
  • Citations are still loading.
  • The response format changed.
  • FolderLM could not detect citations on the page.

Try this

  1. Wait until the NotebookLM response fully finishes.
  2. Make sure citations are visible on the page.
  3. Try copying again.
  4. Refresh the notebook page.
  5. Generate or open the response again.

If citations are visible but FolderLM still says no citations are available, report the bug with a screenshot.

14. Source tools are not working

Try this

  1. Open the NotebookLM sources page.
  2. Wait for all sources to load.
  3. Refresh the page.
  4. Reopen FolderLM tools.
  5. Try the source action again.

* Common issue: If NotebookLM changes its source layout, FolderLM may need an update to detect source elements correctly.

15. Fullscreen mode is not working

Try this

  1. Click the fullscreen button once and wait.
  2. If nothing happens, click inside the NotebookLM page and try again.
  3. Refresh the page.
  4. Restart Chrome.
  5. Make sure no other extension is blocking page layout changes.

If fullscreen enters but does not exit properly, report the issue with a screen recording.

16. FolderLM looks misaligned or UI is broken

Possible reasons

  • Browser zoom is not at 100%.
  • NotebookLM layout changed.
  • Another extension is affecting the page.
  • Chrome cached an old version.
  • The page did not fully load.

Try this

  1. Set browser zoom to 100%.
  2. Refresh the page.
  3. Disable other UI-changing extensions temporarily.
  4. Restart Chrome.
  5. Update FolderLM.

If the issue continues, send a screenshot and mention your screen size if possible.

17. FolderLM is slow

Try this

  1. Close unused tabs.
  2. Refresh NotebookLM.
  3. Restart Chrome.
  4. Check your internet connection.
  5. Make sure Chrome is updated.
  6. Disable unused extensions.
  7. Try again after a few minutes.

FolderLM may feel slower if you have a very large number of notebooks, sources, or browser tabs open.

18. FolderLM works on one device but not another

Try this

  1. Make sure you are signed into the same Google account.
  2. Make sure FolderLM is installed on both devices.
  3. Update Chrome on both devices.
  4. Sync folders again.
  5. Restart Chrome on the device where it is not working.

If the issue continues, report which device works and which device does not.

19. FolderLM does not work with my work or school account

What may be happening

Some organizations restrict browser extensions, third-party sign-in, or Google account access.

Try this

  1. Ask your admin whether Chrome extensions are allowed.
  2. Ask whether third-party Google sign-in is allowed.
  3. Try using FolderLM with a personal Google account.
  4. Check if your organization blocks NotebookLM or related tools.

FolderLM cannot override your organization’s Google Workspace policies.

20. FolderLM disappeared after Chrome restart

Try this

  1. Open Chrome Extensions.
  2. Search for FolderLM.
  3. Make sure it is enabled.
  4. Pin it again to the toolbar.
  5. If it is missing, reinstall it from the Chrome Web Store.

21. I clicked a low rating by mistake

If you clicked 1, 2, or 3 stars by mistake and were taken to a feedback form, you can close the form.

If you are happy with FolderLM, you can still leave a review on the Chrome Web Store from the extension or Chrome Web Store listing.

22. I found a bug. What should I include?

When reporting a bug, include:

  • What you were trying to do
  • What happened
  • What you expected
  • Which FolderLM feature was affected
  • Browser name
  • Operating system
  • Extension version, if known
  • Screenshot or screen recording
  • Error message, if any

A good bug report helps the team fix issues faster.
